Opioid misuse affects everyone.

November 14th through February 7th, Peace Regional Victim Services, in cooperation with regional and provincial partners, are holding a series of discussions featuring local leaders, individuals affected by opioid misuse and addiction professionals to better equip those living in the Peace Country Region with the information and resources needed to combat this growing epidemic.

Meet THE SPEAKER

Dr. Charl Els

After achieving his Doctorate in Psychiatry in South Africa, Dr. Charl Els moved to Canada and has been practicing as an Addiction Specialist here since 1999. Dr. Els has completed two clinical Fellowships in Addiction Medicine and Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Toronto and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).

Additionally, the Medical Review Officer Certification Council (MROCC) has, by examination, certified Dr. Els as an MRO for the purposes of interpreting workplace and forensic drug testing, and to provide expert testimony in related cases.

For almost three years Dr. Els was retained by the CPSA as an MRO in the context of the provincial Physicians' Wellness program.

Dr. Els sits on the American College of Occupational and Environmental Health's (ACOEM) Opioid Guidelines Committee and is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Alberta's Department of Psychiatry and an on adjunct faculty at the John Dossetor Health Ethics Centre.
